badaguan scenic area

Located at the southern foot of Taiping Mountain in Qingdao, Shandong Province, Badaguan Scenic Area (八大关景区) was established in the 1930s and spans over 70 hectares. It epitomizes the essence of Qingdao, known for its characteristic scenery of “red-tiled roofs, lush greenery, and azure seas and skies.” Originally consisting of eight roads (now expanded to ten), Badaguan is named after famous passes of the ancient Great Wall of China, including Shaoguan Road, Jiayuguan Road, Hanguguan Road, Zhengyangguan Road, Linhuaiguan Road, Ningwuguan Road, Zijingguan Road, and Juyongguan Road, along with later additions such as Wushengguan Road and Shanhaiguan Road.

Before liberation, Badaguan was a villa area for bureaucratic capitalists. After liberation, the People’s Government comprehensively renovated Badaguan, transforming it into one of China’s important recuperation areas. Many party and state leaders, as well as important international figures, have stayed here. With its scenic beauty and historical significance, Badaguan Scenic Area attracts visitors from all over the world, offering a serene retreat amidst nature’s splendor and a glimpse into Qingdao’s rich cultural heritage.

On March 20th at Badaguan, there were only red tiles, and green trees are missing; Qingdao felt like a child who had just opened their eyes and wasn’t quite awake yet.

At the Eight Great Passes, I got off at the Zhongshan Park Metro Station and followed the crowd, navigating the slopes. There was less commercial atmosphere here, allowing for a leisurely stroll and exploration. I admired the architecture, took in the view of the sea, and walked along Huiquan Road, catching sight of a flock of seagulls taking off and landing. Walking on the beach, I was careful not to let the fine sand get into my shoes, while my… Read more »

Red Maple: The maple leaves on Jiayuguan Road haven’t turned red yet.

Ginkgo: The ginkgo trees on Juyongguan Road haven’t fully turned yellow either.

When the sunlight is good, you can take great photos anywhere.

In mid to late November, the leaves in Badaguan change to shades of yellow and red. Walking down the street in a coat with headphones on brings such a sense of happiness.

In the morning, I visited Badaguan Scenic Area. The shady paths are lined with retro buildings, each showcasing a unique architectural style. The interiors are quite spacious, and the layout is a bit winding. Without navigation, it can be a bit challenging to find a specific building if you’re looking for one.
