Shekou Sea World (蛇口海上世界), also known as the “Minghua Ship (明华轮),” is a multi-functional entertainment center built around a 10,000-ton ocean liner. Since the 1980s, it has been a popular attraction in Shenzhen, drawing visitors from all over. Originally a luxury passenger ship operated by the Guangzhou Ocean Shipping Company, the vessel traveled internationally before being docked in the scenic Six Bays of Shekou in August 1983. After nearly six months of renovation, the ship was transformed into the “Sea World,” exclusively serving tourists.
Sea World offers 239 elegant and comfortable suites, accommodating over 600 guests at a time. Onboard, visitors can enjoy a variety of dining and entertainment options, including lavish Chinese and Western restaurants, an English pub, a bamboo-themed bar, a seafood restaurant, Japanese cuisine, a dance hall bar, a discotheque, a cinema, and a swimming pool. There are also cultural exhibits showcasing Southwest cave culture, northern China milk tea traditions, Beijing temple fairs, and southern China customs. The ship even offers a popular day cruise to Hong Kong waters.
Sea World is especially beautiful at night, with stunning lighting and a captivating musical fountain show. It’s a must-see for visitors.
Located in Shekou’s Six Bays, Sea World is surrounded by other attractions such as Nüwa Seaside Park, a 15-kilometer coastal promenade, Time Square, the China Merchants History Museum, Tin Hau Temple, Zuo Fort, the Tomb of the Song Emperor, and a statue of Lin Zexu. Additionally, just southeast of the docking area, there is a 65,000-square-meter artificial fishing reef zone, offering activities like fishing, yacht rides, sailing, water skiing, beach swimming, speed boating, and diving.
