The Three Gorges Bamboo Sea Scenic Area (三峡竹海风景区, Three Gorges Bamboo Forest), also known as the Sixi Ecotourism Area, is nestled in the heart of Zigui County, Yichang City, Hubei Province. Renowned for its vast bamboo forests and the presence of four meandering streams, the scenic area spans along the Da Xi River system, stretching 9 kilometers from north to south and 1 kilometer from east to west. The central region covers an area of 9 square kilometers, creating a picturesque landscape characterized by serene bamboo groves, meandering streams, rolling hills, cascading waterfalls, and lush vegetation. The name “Bamboo Sea” perfectly captures the essence of the region’s charm.

Location and Transportation
The Three Gorges Bamboo Sea is located in the jurisdiction of Maoping Town, Zigui County, Yichang City, Hubei Province. Positioned on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, it is situated approximately 12 kilometers from the site of the Three Gorges Dam.
To reach the Three Gorges Bamboo Sea, you can take a direct bus from Yichang Jiuma Terminal. Inquire about the direct buses to the scenic area at 6900801 or 6900802.
Alternatively, you can go to Yichang Long-Distance Bus Station on Dongshan Avenue and board a scheduled bus to Zigui County. Once you arrive at the final destination, there are additional vehicles available to transport you to the Bamboo Sea.

Within the Bamboo Sea, there are over 300 bamboo varieties, such as Zhuzi bamboo, Qiong bamboo, Ban bamboo, Chengma green bamboo, Solid bamboo, Jinxiang jade bamboo, Rough flower spike bamboo, Broadleaf bamboo, Huangcao Gang bamboo, Gaojie bamboo, covering an expansive area of over 10,000 acres. Notably, the area boasts the presence of the nationally protected species, the Money Tree, affectionately known as the “money-shaking tree.”
Shengshui Lake
The Shengshui Lake within the scenic area is crystal clear, reflecting the images of small bridges, pavilions, mountains, and skies. The lake is home to numerous fish, creating an enchanting scene reminiscent of a dreamy aquatic world. Visitors can partake in the joys of boating, water activities, and leisurely exploration, immersing themselves in the tranquil and delightful atmosphere.
Karst Caves and Waterfalls
The Three Gorges Bamboo Sea is rich in karst caves, featuring notable ones such as the Dragon King Cave, Baiyan Cave, and Yuquan Cave, among nearly 10 other caverns. Additionally, the Three Hanging Waterfalls within the area have an impressive vertical drop of 389 meters, making them one of the rare high waterfalls. The falls descend in three tiers, creating a spectacle of mist rising to the sky, with rainbows arching across the landscape.
