Tianyou Peak (天游峰), standing at 408.8 meters above sea level, is nestled in the heart of the Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area, specifically on the north side of sixth bend within the Nine-Bend Stream. It is flanked by towering cliffs, adjoining Xianyou Rock to the east and Xianzhang Peak to the west. Known as the “First Perilous Peak of Wuyi,” Tianyou Peak offers breathtaking views that capture the essence of natural beauty and serenity.
During clear mornings after rainfall, the misty clouds blanket the peaks and valleys like rolling waves of the sea, creating an ethereal atmosphere reminiscent of a celestial realm. This mystical quality inspired its name “Tianyou,” which translates to “heavenly wandering,” as if one were exploring the palaces of heaven itself.
Tianyou Peak is divided into upper and lower sections. The upper section, known as Shang Tianyou, features the Observation Pavilion perched precariously on the cliff’s edge, offering an unparalleled vantage point. From here, visitors can marvel at the expansive sea of clouds, the majestic peaks, and the winding Jiujie Stream, evoking a sense of awe and tranquility that transcends earthly concerns.
Descending to the lower section, known as Xia Tianyou, visitors will find the renovated Tianyou Pavilion at the southern end. This area includes a convenience store and tea house for visitors’ comfort. Behind the pavilion, on the Miaogao Platform, stands a rare red bean tree whose beans shimmer in the sunlight, adding a touch of natural beauty to the surroundings. Nearby, the Huma Gorge cascades down from the southern mountainside, forming the famous Snowflake Spring with a drop of over 170 meters, creating a picturesque and elegant scene.
Alongside the gorge, visitors can discover more than thirty cliffside stone carvings dating back through the ages, each telling its own story and adding to the cultural richness of the area. Beyond Miaogao Platform stretches the eastern ridge known as Zhenyi Ridge, home to Xianyou Pavilion, Sanyou Hall, and the site of the former Sentian Pavilion. This area is steeped in historical and cultural significance, offering a glimpse into the ancient spiritual and intellectual pursuits of the region.
Accessible within the Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area, Tianyou Peak invites visitors to immerse themselves in its natural grandeur and cultural heritage. Whether exploring the heights of the Observation Pavilion or contemplating the serene beauty of Snowflake Spring, Tianyou Peak promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Wuyi Mountain’s mystical landscape.
