Wushan Tianfeng (吴山天风), or Heavenly Wind at Wushan Hill, stands as one of the Ten Scenes of the West Lake, located southeast of West Lake in Hangzhou, China. Rising to a height of 94 meters, it presents a picturesque landscape characterized by its elegance, unique rock formations, clear springs, and beautiful caves. Atop the hill sits the Chenghuang Pavilion, offering a commanding and magnificent view of the surroundings.
In ancient times, Wushan marked the southern boundary of the Wu State during the Spring and Autumn Period. It comprises a series of hills, including Ziyang and Yunju, forming an arc-shaped ridge stretching from southwest to northeast, collectively known as Wushan. While not towering in height, Wushan’s strategic location within the urban area allows for panoramic views of Hangzhou’s river, mountains, lake, and cityscape, offering visitors a sense of soaring above the city, hence earning its name “Heavenly Wind at Wushan.”

Location and Transportation
Wushan Tianfeng is located at No. 3 Wushan Road, Chenghuang Mountain, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, southeast of West Lake. To get there, you can choose one of the following ways:
Bus: Take bus 4 or 38 and get off at Hehua ChiTou Stop (荷花池头站)
Metro: The closest metro station to the attraction is Wushan Square (吴山广场) on line 7. After getting out of the station from Exit D, you will be standing right at the entrance.

Stone Carving
The Wushan Scenic Area is divided into four sections: the paid Chenghuang Pavilion area and the free Wugong Mountain, Ruangong Temple, and Sanmao Temple areas. These areas are connected from Qinghefang Street, running north to south and linking Ziyang Mountain, Yunju Mountain, and finally Wansong Ridge Road. As visitors explore Qinghefang Street, they cannot miss the iconic “Heavenly Wind at Wushan (吴山天风)” stone carving surrounded by greenery at Wushan Square, marking the entrance to the scenic area.
Hiking Trails
There are multiple routes to ascend Wushan, with the most popular entrance located near Qinghefang Street. If approaching from Liangdao Mountain Road, visitors can drive or walk, passing by the Hangzhou Museum (free admission) and catching glimpses of historical Hangzhou photographs. Walking from Qinghefang Street’s Dajing Lane provides an even more scenic route.
From Wushan Square towards Qinghefang Street, turn right at the first intersection onto Dajing Lane. Ascend the stone steps here to reach Dongyue Temple, where two “Coiling Dragon Pillars” from the Ming Dynasty stand before the main hall, representing valuable relics. Notably, this area buzzes with activity, featuring numerous theaters and teahouses where visitors can enjoy tea and performances.
Chenghuan Pavilion
Continuing upwards from Dongyue Temple along the mountain path for about 10 minutes, visitors will reach Chenghuang Pavilion (City God Pavilion), a prominent architectural feature of Wushan. On clear days, ascending the tower provides breathtaking views of the entire Wushan area, while nighttime ascents offer mesmerizing views of Hangzhou’s city lights. The tea room on the third floor of Chenghuang Pavilion offers a scenic spot to enjoy tea at reasonable prices. Additionally, the exit area features an intriguing display of the Twelve Chinese Zodiac Stones, where visitors often enjoy finding their own zodiac sign amidst the abstract pile of rocks.
