The China-Russia Border Tourist Area (中俄边境旅游区), located in Manzhouli City, Inner Mongolia, is a vibrant destination that showcases the unique cultural blend of China, Russia, and Mongolia. Known as the largest land port city in China, Manzhouli is often referred to as the “Window to East Asia” and the “Eurasian Land Bridge.” This tourist area comprises two main attractions: the National Gate Scenic Area (国门景区) and the Matryoshka Doll Scenic Area (套娃景区).

National Gate Scenic Area

The National Gate Scenic Area is a landmark tourist attraction in Manzhouli and serves as an important base for patriotic education. It is recognized as one of the top 100 classic red tourism sites in the country. Located 9 kilometers west of the city center within the Sino-Russian mutual trade zone, this area features several notable attractions, including the National Gate, the No. 41 Border Marker, the ruins of the secret transportation line from the revolutionary era, replicas of the four generations of the National Gate, Peace Gate Square, a red tourism exhibition hall, the Sixth Congress of the Communist Party Exhibition Hall, and a locomotive square.

The fifth-generation National Gate stands as the largest land border gate in China, directly opposite its Russian counterpart. Climbing to the top of the gate offers stunning views of the nearby Russian town of Baikal, making it a must-visit spot for tourists.

Matryoshka Doll Scenic Area

The Matryoshka Doll Scenic Area, an essential part of the China-Russia Border Tourist Area, emphasizes the historical, cultural, architectural, and folkloric connections between Manzhouli and Russia. This large-scale Russian-themed park integrates dining, accommodation, transportation, entertainment, and shopping.

1. Themed Entertainment: This area features world-renowned attractions, including a Russian circus theater, outdoor performances inspired by the Matryoshka doll, an immersive 6D dome cinema, a magical holographic ballet theater, a Russian-Mongolian dining and performance restaurant, and various high-tech indoor and outdoor amusement facilities. These attractions combine unique performances with dynamic entertainment experiences.

2. Themed Park: The themed park showcases scaled-down replicas of Russia’s most iconic buildings. It includes a Russian folk experience center, a Sino-Russian Friendship Exhibition Hall, and direct-sale areas for Russian food and handicrafts. The Matryoshka Square is another highlight, providing a festive atmosphere for visitors.

3. Themed Hotel: The Matryoshka Hotel covers nearly 100,000 square meters and has over 1,000 rooms, making it the largest themed hotel in the Hulunbuir region. The hotel is renowned for being the largest Matryoshka building in the world, offering a distinctive hospitality experience that encompasses dining, accommodation, business, meetings, and tourism services.

Location and Transportation

The China-Russia Border Tourist Area is located at 23 Huabu Street, Manzhouli City, Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. To get there, you can take public buses 6 or 10 to the Matryoshka Square bus stop. From there, it’s just a short walk to the scenic area.
