Du Fu River Pavilion – An Iconic Building along Xiang River

Du Fu River Pavilion Changsha

The Du Fu River Pavilion (杜甫江阁) is a tribute to the famous Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu. The pavilion is an ancient-style architectural garden located in Changsha, Hunan Province. It was built to commemorate Du Fu’s stay in the area during the late autumn of 768 AD, when he traveled to Changsha to visit a friend and lived in a modest house by the Xiang River, referred to as the “River Pavilion.”

The pavilion was officially opened to the public on January 1, 2006, following a decision by the Changsha Municipal Government to construct it in 2002. Standing at 18 meters tall and consisting of four stories, the Du Fu River Pavilion offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes, including the Orange Island and Yuelu Mountain, both of which are situated across the river. It is less than a kilometer from the Tianxin Pavilion, forming an important cultural corridor along the Xiang River. During summer weekends, especially when fireworks are held, the pavilion attracts many visitors, making it essential to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot.
