Hebei Province, situated in the heart of the North China Plain along the northern banks of the Yellow River, earns its name from its geographical positioning – “He” meaning river, and “Bei” denoting north. Bounded by the Yanshan Mountains to the north, the Taihang Mountains to the west, the vast plains to the east, and bordering Beijing and Tianjin to the south, Hebei Province serves as a pivotal gateway between the capital city and the rest of the country.
This province envelops Beijing and Tianjin, historically serving as a vital area surrounding the imperial capital. Hebei boasts a diverse landscape, comprising plateaus, mountains, hills, plains, lakes, and a coastline stretching 487 kilometers along the Bohai Sea. Rich in tourism resources, it hosts seven national key scenic spots, five national historical and cultural cities, six provincial historical and cultural cities, and numerous cultural heritage sites. Cities like Cangzhou and Wuqiao are renowned as the birthplaces of Chinese martial arts and acrobatics, respectively.

Best Time to Visit Hebei
The best time to visit Hebei Province in China largely depends on your preferences for weather and the experiences you seek. Spring (April to June) is a popular choice, as the temperatures are mild, flowers are in bloom, and the scenery is picturesque. This is an excellent time for outdoor activities and cultural exploration.
Alternatively, early autumn (September to October) is another favored period, with pleasant temperatures, clear skies, and colorful foliage, making it ideal for sightseeing and hiking along the Great Wall.
However, it’s crucial to avoid the peak of summer (July and August) due to scorching heat, and the winter months (December to February) can be bitterly cold, particularly in the northern regions.
The first weekend of the free month at Hetou Old Street was very crowded – extremely crowded, in fact! However, compared to my last visit, the area has expanded and the decorations have increased. This time felt more substantial; I caught several performances and also watched the “Fly Over Hebei”. While it’s still quite a bit behind Disney’s “Flight of Passage,” it was still enjoyable.
From September 21 to 22, we drove from Beijing to the Bashang Grassland in Chengde, Hebei. Saturday was a cloudy day, so although we couldn’t take great photos, the scenery was beautiful to the naked eye. On Sunday, the sun was shining brightly, the pictures turned out lovely, and it was warm.
I went to the Basha Grassland. It was a completely cookie-cutter experience. We stood in long lines waiting to ride horses and to participate in various standard activities. They gave us plastic bags in small bowls to drink our milk tea and lamb soup. The staff who prepared the milk tea and lamb soup seemed like they were reluctantly pulled in on short notice.
The period from July to September is the most beautiful time to visit Beidaihe (北戴河) and Ulan Buh Prairie (乌兰布统草原). During this time, you can enjoy digging in the sand and playing in the water by the seaside , and let your children run freely across the vast grasslands. These destinations are perfect for family vacations!
If you ask which cities in Hebei are fun to visit, Qinghuangdao Beidaihe and Bashang Grasslands are definitely at the top! I rarely use “amazing” to describe a place, but Hebei is truly a highly underestimated tourism treasure trove. Here is a suggested itinerary and time arrangement for visiting Beidaihe, Chengde, and Bashang Grasslands: Day 1: Arrive in Beidaihe. I recommend renting a small electric scooter to ride along the coastal road and visit Pigeon Nest to enjoy the sea… Read more »
Who says Hebei is not fun? That’s because you don’t know about these tourist attractions. 1. Handan – Xiangtangshan Grottoes (响堂山石窟) Hidden in the mountains of Handan, Hebei, Xiangtangshan Grottoes carries the glorious memories of the Northern Qi Dynasty. Compared to the famous Yungang and Longmen Grottoes, Xiangtangshan Grottoes may appear more low-key, but its profound historical heritage and exquisite artistic value are equally impressive. Address: No. 12, Taihang West Road, Fengfeng Mining District, Handan City, Hebei Province Transportation: About… Read more »

I didn’t expect to find such breathtaking mountain and water wonders in Hebei Province [wow][wow][wow]. It’s located at the Panjiakou Reservoir in Xinglong County, Chengde City. The reservoir here has steep rocky mountains and flowing water, which is extremely beautiful. Moreover, the location of this reservoir used to be part of the ancient Great Wall. After hundreds of years of changes, it has formed such a wonder. The underwater Great Wall will definitely broaden your horizons [thumbs up][thumbs up][thumbs up].… Read more »
