The Mongol River Scenic Area (莫尔格勒河景区) is located in the heart of the Hulunbuir Grassland, representing the most important and typical meadow grassland region in Hulunbuir, covering an area of 51.42 square kilometers. The scenic area features two visitor centers, three observation platforms, two attractions, and two camping hotels, along with tea break services for visitors.
The Mongol River is formed by converging springs, winding and meandering like a soft silk ribbon across the grassland, making it one of the remarkable wonders of the Hulunbuir Grassland. While not particularly wide, the river typically measures only five to six meters at its widest point during non-flood periods. Flowing from northeast to southwest, the river traverses the grasslands, eventually draining into Lake Hohonor before joining the Heilong River. The total length of the river is over 290 kilometers and it is part of the Erguna River system, which serves as a natural border between China and Russia. The picturesque landscape and the unique ecological environment of the Mongol River Scenic Area make it an ideal destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Highlights of Mongol River Scenic Area
Mergen Station

Mergen Station is the first rest station in the scenic area. The name “Mergen” translates to “wise” or “intelligent” in Mongolian. Covering approximately 3,900 square meters, the station features a pure wooden structure designed in a “pin” shape. At Mergen Station, visitors can not only admire the magnificent and expansive Mongol River but also immerse themselves in the wisdom and traces of ancient nomadic culture. Guests can enjoy refreshments at the Mergen Leisure Tea Break and visit the Inner Mongolia specialty store for a taste of local nomadic products. The station is equipped with various facilities, including consultation services, information inquiries, commercial services, and restrooms. The connected corridors on both sides provide spaces for relaxation and scenic views.
Ajina Station

The name “Ajina” means “steed” in Mongolian. In the context of nomadic culture, not all horses can be called “Ajina”; only the champions from the grandest Naadam Festival on the grasslands earn this title, symbolizing the good fortune of “riding the winning steed.” Ajina Station is the largest of the three viewing platforms in the scenic area, consisting of a sculptural entrance area, a landscape passage, and a platform square, surrounded by resting corridors. The overall design resembles a horse head fiddle. This viewing platform is elevated, offering a broad perspective to appreciate the scenery of the Mongol River from a new height. Additionally, every day at 9:30 AM, visitors can watch the highly anticipated flag-raising ceremony by the mounted police.
Haolin Wendur Station

“Haolin Wendur” means “high and far” in Mongolian. The observation deck is designed in the shape of “the sun and moon surrounding each other,” symbolizing national unity. With a diameter of approximately 40 meters, this entirely wooden structure is the highest viewing platform in the area, providing an unobstructed view of the Mongol River. Visitors can enjoy sweeping vistas of the river, while opposite the platform lies the famous Horseback Mountain, making this station a prime spot for panoramic photography and appreciation of the stunning natural beauty.
