Qingdao Travel Guide
Qingdao, located at the southern tip of the Shandong Peninsula, is a unique coastal city facing the Yellow Sea and embracing Jiaozhou Bay. It is a national historical and cultural city as well as a scenic tourist destination. Known for its cityscape of “red tiles, green trees, blue sea, and azure sky,” Qingdao boasts European-style multi-national architecture. The city also features the residences of famous historical and cultural figures alongside modern leisure venues. All these elements combine to make Qingdao a harmonious blend of East and West, mountains, sea, and city, creating one of China’s most beautiful coastal landscapes.
The best time to visit Qingdao is from May to October. After May Day, the sea water begins to warm up, and July and August are the prime months for swimming and surfing. This is also the best time to experience the local customs, especially during the grand Qingdao International Beer Festival in August, when numerous tourists gather in Qingdao to drink and celebrate with locals, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere. September ushers in the autumn season, which is the best time for seafood, with crabs and mantis shrimp coming into season, offering a feast for visitors. The autumn scenery in Badaguan is also enchanting, with golden sycamore-lined paths making one feel as if they are walking through Paris, France.
This is my second visit to Qingdao! I’m making up for the regrets of my first trip. There aren’t many people at this time of year. It is indeed cold, but the seaside scenery is truly beautiful!
Qingdao has so many beautiful places in the autumn.
Please avoid going to Badaguan and Zhanshan Road as they are just too crowded!
There are simply too many people!
Even the most stunning scenery loses its appeal when there are too many visitors.
It feels chaotic, like a vegetable market.
Don’t go to May Fourth Square during the day; the light show at 8 PM is truly spectacular.
The best months to visit Qingdao are September, October, November, and December. During these months, there are significantly fewer people compared to July and August, and the environment is much better with bluer waters. Additionally, accommodation will be much cheaper. In winter, you can also see seagulls; however, make sure to bring extra warm clothing as it can be quite cold by the sea.
