Jiaozuo City, located in the northwest part of Henan Province, China, was historically known as Shanyang. It holds significance as one of the central regions of early activity for the Han Chinese ethnic group, with remaining cultural relics from the Peiligang Culture, Yangshao Culture, and Longshan Culture. It is the hometown of historical and cultural figures such as Sima Yi, Han Yu, and Li Shangyin, and is also recognized as the birthplace of Tai Chi in China.
Jiaozuo is notable for being the first city in China to receive the United Nations’ “World Outstanding Tourism Service Brand” award. It boasts numerous scenic spots including Yuntai Mountain, Shennong Mountain, Qingtian River, Lianhe Tomb, Yuanrong Wuhai Zen Temple, Chenjiagou, and Jiaying Temple.
The city experiences an average annual temperature ranging from 12.8°C to 15.5°C. July is the hottest month with average temperatures between 27°C to 28°C, while January is the coldest with averages ranging from -2°C to 2°C. The frost-free period typically spans between 190 to 230 days annually. Spring and autumn are considered the best seasons for tourism in Jiaozuo due to pleasant weather conditions.
