Shenyang Travel Guide
Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, is renowned for its heavy industrial equipment manufacturing and is often referred to as the “Ruhr of the East.” It is also one of China’s historic cities, with a history spanning over 2,000 years since its establishment during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. It was in Shenyang that Emperor Huang Taiji founded the Qing Dynasty, which is why the city is known as the “birthplace of one dynasty and the capital of two emperors.” Today, many ancient landmarks of great cultural value remain in the city.
Shenyang is also a witness to national humiliation, as it was here that the Japanese launched the “September 18th Incident.” The city is home to the “September 18th History Museum,” and every year at 9:18 AM on September 18th, a city-wide alarm is sounded. In the museum, a bell inscribed with the words “Never Forget National Humiliation” is tolled, and its mournful sound echoes across the sky as a solemn reminder of this tragic chapter in history.
