As a world-renowned metropolis, Shanghai’s public transport system is exceptionally well-developed. You can get to almost every tourist attraction, including the bund, by metro conveniently. If you are confused with the various subway lines and do not know which station to get off, here is the answer.
Subway line 2 goes right beneath the bund, but the Shanghai administration has not set a station there. The nearest one is Nanjing East Road Station, the converging point of subway lines 2 and 10. It is a huge station with 7 exits scattered over 5 blocks. To get to the bund in the quickest way, you need to leave the station from exit 2 or 3 and walk along Nanjing East Road towards the east for about 400 meters until you reach Huangpu River.
Nanjing East Road Station is extremely crowded during holidays, and there are three alternative metro stations you may consider if you prefer quiet. The first one is Tiantong Road station on lines 10 and 12 to the northwest of the bund, about 1.9 kilometers away. The second is Yuyuan Garden Station on line 10 to the southwest, about 880 meters away. The last one is Lujiazui station on line 2 to the east across the Huangpu River. If you get off here, you need to take a ferry to the bund, which costs 2 RMB.
