Xunliao Bay, Huizhou – A Vibrant Beach Resort

Xunliao Bay

Xunliao Bay (巽寮湾), a cultural hub for the Hakka people, boasts a rich heritage where fishing, boat, and Hakka cultures blend seamlessly, giving rise to unique local customs such as fishing songs and Mazu culture. Known for its “clear waters, white sands, and beautiful rocks,” Xunliao Bay features a stunning 27-kilometer coastline, complemented by over 70,000 square meters of masson pine forest along the shore and striking geological formations.

The overall layout of Xunliao Bay follows a “one axis, three zones” structure. The main axis is Jin Hai Tan Avenue, which serves as the primary thoroughfare. The three zones include the South Zone, named “Peach Blossom Paradise,” which is focused on high-end tourism and leisure; the Central Zone, known as “Deep Blue Town,” which serves as the core tourism service area; and the North Zone, called “Sea of Green,” which is dedicated to ecological tourism.

One of the most popular spots within Xunliao Bay is the Mozi Stone Scenic Area, a vibrant beach that attracts many visitors. For those seeking a quieter experience, the bay near Nanhai Fishing Village is a local favorite. Although the sand quality may not be as pristine as Mozi Stone, the water quality remains excellent, and the area is significantly less crowded, making it ideal for relaxation. Whether you prefer the lively atmosphere of the main beach or the serene surroundings of Nanhai, Xunliao Bay offers a delightful experience for every visitor.

Highlights of Xunliao Bay

Eight Prominent Coves

Xunliao Bay 1

Xunliao Bay features eight prominent coves. Among them, the rock formations in the bay are particularly striking, with Phoenix Mouth standing out. Phoenix Mouth is a small island formed by reefs, topped by a massive crab-shaped stone. The island is dotted with unusual rocks and numerous cliff inscriptions. One notable rock juts out several meters from the island into the sea, resembling a giant crocodile with its mouth open. On the Lanyong Gaopai Bay Beach, the Mozi Stone Group is another highlight, where large stones are piled together. Two colossal stones, each weighing over a hundred tons, appear stacked like a traditional stone mill, producing a resonant sound when the waves crash against them, earning the name “Waves Push the Mill.”

Cliff Inscriptions

Xunliao Bay 3

The cliff inscriptions of Xunliao Bay are scattered along the 27-kilometer coastline, with more than 30 notable examples. These inscriptions are rich in meaning and artistic expression. Among them, the inscription “日暖凤池 Sunny Phoenix Pool” on Fengchi Island was carved by the literati Fu Wei in the Qing Dynasty in 1852. It is the oldest cliff inscription in the area and marks the beginning of Xunliao’s cliff carving culture. Many renowned figures from various fields have also left their marks, including Xiao Jinguang, Zhang Aiping, and Qi Gong.

Delta Island

Xunliao Bay 2

Delta Island is the first privately owned island in China with legal rights, covering 16 hectares in the southern region of Xunliao Bay. From a distance, it appears as three distinct islands connected by natural formations. Delta Island rises amidst a backdrop of clear blue waters, white sandy beaches, and vibrant coral reefs. Its lush broadleaf forests and well-preserved natural resources make it one of the best-preserved subtropical ecological islands in the South China Sea, offering a pristine environment for visitors to explore and enjoy.
