Yanji People’s Park (延吉人民公园) is located in the northwest part of Yanji city, offering a beautiful natural setting with tall ancient trees, blooming flowers, mountains, water features, and traditional pavilions. The park includes a small zoo that houses notable animals such as Siberian tigers, sika deer, peacocks, and white swans. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of amusement facilities. On the park’s north side, a scenic pine forest surrounds a hilltop pavilion, providing a great vantage point for panoramic views of the city.
Founded in 1909, the park was initially established under the suggestion of Wu Luzhen, a local official during the Qing Dynasty. It was once known as the “Commercial Bureau Park” as it frequently hosted diplomatic events during the Republic of China period. In 1953, it was renamed Yanji People’s Park.
To further improve the park’s environment and facilities, a renovation project began in April 2018. The second phase included landscaping improvements, planting 510 trees, laying 42,000 square meters of lawn, constructing wooden platforms and walkways, and installing 76 benches, 22 surveillance cameras, and 16 streetlights. Additionally, new animal enclosures for herbivores were built, and existing aviary and raptor enclosures were renovated.
