The Yunnan Nationalities Museum (δΊ‘ε—ζ°‘ζ—εšη‰©ι¦†), covering an area of 130,000 square meters, with 16 exhibition halls spanning 6,000 square meters, stands as the largest ethnic museum in China. It houses a collection of 120,000 items categorized into eight thematic sections on Yunnan Ethnic Minorities: “Social Forms” “Ecological Industries,” “Textile Crafts and Costume Art,” “Folk Art,” “Festive Music and Dance,” “Handicrafts,” “Ancient Books and Documents,” and “Rare Stones and Treasures.”

One of the museum’s key initiatives is the creation of a cultural square dedicated to ethnic festivals. Over the years, various ethnic groups such as the Bai, Yi, Hani, Lisu, and Miao have celebrated their traditional festivals at the museum. These celebrations include performances of traditional songs and dances, as well as exhibitions showcasing traditional crafts.

Through its comprehensive collection and immersive cultural experiences, the Yunnan Nationalities Museum serves as a platform for promoting understanding and appreciation of the diverse ethnic cultures in Yunnan Province, contributing to the preservation and dissemination of these rich cultural heritage for generations to come.

Location and Transportation

The Yunnan Nationalities Museum is located approximately 9 kilometers from downtown Kunming, at 1503 Dianchi Road, Xishan District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. To get there, you can choose one of the following ways:

Bus: Take bus 24, 44, 73, 94, 171, A1, K31, or Sightseeing Line 1 and get off at Yunnan Ethnic Village Stop (云南民族村站).

Metro: The closest metro station to Yunnan Nationalities Museum is Yuhucun (ζΈ”ζˆ·ζ‘) on line 5. After getting out of the station from Exit B, walk about 1 kilometers to the south to reach the museum.
