Glacier Park in Jade Dragon Snow Mountain – Ticket, Opening Hours, and Highlights

Glacier Park in Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

The Glacier Park (冰川公园) in Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is nestled within the YuLong Naxi Autonomous County of Lijiang, Yunnan Province, situated on the northeast slope of the main peak, Shanzidou, of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Renowned as a typical representative of modern glaciers in Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, this park is famous for its unique glacier erosion formations such as stone caves and caverns, earning it the nickname “Lucerne Glass Palace” and being hailed as a geological relic of the Quaternary glacier formation.

The glacier landscapes within the park are breathtaking, with terrain characterized by gentle slopes, further enhanced by slight human interventions, rendering this natural glacier park even more picturesque. Visitors can behold the magnificent scenery of the glaciers, immersing themselves in the fairy-tale-like joy of the snow and ice kingdom. During winter, visitors can engage in outdoor activities such as snowball fights, building snowmen, and sledding, reveling in the delights brought by ice and snow. In the summer and autumn, visitors can explore the scenic area spanning 2.7 kilometers, including the Bai Shui No. 1 Glacier, formed around forty thousand years ago. The “Green Snow Wonder Peaks” of the ice tower forest, resembling giant emerald ice blocks, are nestled amidst rugged rocks.

About 5 kilometers west of the Ganhaizi Visitor Center lies the lower station of the cable car. This marks the starting point of the Snow Mountain Cableway. The cableway spans a total length of 2,914 meters, with a vertical elevation difference of 1,150 meters, making it the highest-altitude tourist cableway in China. Starting from the alpine meadows at an elevation of 3,000 meters, the cableway traverses through towering pine and fir forests. As it ascends, the forests gradually recede, giving way to dense shrubs and clusters of azaleas. Beyond an altitude of 4,000 meters, only mosses clinging to the mountain rocks are visible, culminating in vast expanses of pristine white snow. This half-hour journey allows visitors to experience all four seasons in just one place.
