Jingyuetan National Forest Park (净月潭国家森林公园) is located in the southeast of Changchun City, Jilin Province, covering an area of 96.38 square kilometers, with a water area of 5.3 square kilometers. Over 96% of the park is forested. The park is named “Jingyuetan” because its crescent-shaped reservoir resembles a moon. It is also considered a sister lake to Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan and is one of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Jilin.”
Built in 1934 as Changchun’s first water source, Jingyuetan was initially called “Reservoir” during the occupation period. The name “Jingyuetan” was given by Zheng Yu, the director of the construction bureau of the puppet Manchukuo capital and the second son of Zheng Xiaoxu, a puppet government official.
The park boasts an artificial forest with a complete ecosystem of 30 tree species. Its serene and lush environment has earned it titles such as “Asia’s Largest Artificial Forest,” “Pearl of the Green Sea,” and “Urban Oxygen Bar.” Today, Jingyuetan is an ecological treasure for Changchun and serves as a green landmark of the city.
