Wuxi Travel Guide
Wuxi, abbreviated as “Xi,” was historically known as Liangxi and Jin Kui and is often called the “Pearl of Taihu Lake.” Located in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta plain in southern Jiangsu Province, Wuxi serves as a crucial transportation hub in the Taihu Lake basin, intersected by the Grand Canal. It borders the Yangtze River to the north, Taihu Lake to the south, and connects with Suzhou to the east and Changzhou to the west, forming the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou metropolitan area.
The beauty of Wuxi lies in its proximity to Taihu Lake, particularly at Yuantouzhu (Turtle Head Isle), the lake’s most scenic spot. Here, you can invite friends for a boat ride, enjoying the misty vistas of Jiangnan in spring or the lush lotus blooms in summer, immersing yourself in the natural rhythms of Wuxi. Visit the serene Lingshan Buddha, where you can climb for panoramic views, meditate, and appreciate the spiritual ambiance. In the bustling Chong’an District, discover cultural treasures such as the Donglin Academy and the former residences of notable figures like A Bing and Qian Zhongshu, reflecting Wuxi’s rich heritage.
Stroll along Nanchang Street by the Grand Canal, marveling at historical architecture while enjoying trendy cafes frequented by the young crowd. During your visit, indulge in a moment of relaxation with a Yixing teapot, attend a traditional Wuxi opera, and savor local delicacies like juicy water peaches, Wuxi-style ribs, and xiaolongbao. Wuxi’s unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and culinary delights ensures an unforgettable experience.
Lake Li looks like jelly under the sunset, sparkling with shimmering waves. Sitting by the lake waiting for the sunset is a beautiful experience.
Moreover, there are not many people at Lake Li, which enhances the overall experience. The boat rides start at 4 PM, costing 40 yuan per person. Sitting at the back of the deck will provide an even better experience.
Taihu Lake is truly beautiful beyond words. After a whole day of exploring, I didn’t feel bored at all. The breathtaking scenery and the incredibly relaxed visitors were captivating. Cyclists were weaving along the paths by the shore, people were chatting over tea under small tents, children were playing with their dogs, and birds danced in the autumn breeze. This is the most beautiful depiction of life I have ever seen.
The sense of happiness in Wuxi is incredibly strong. The transportation is convenient, and the streets are clean. During the travel season, it wasn’t too crowded. I will definitely come back next time.
I went to Wuxi on a business trip for a week. The scenery from the high-speed train and the office buildings was amazing, but I was either facing extreme heat when going out or it was constantly raining. It was indeed my first experience of the sweltering summer in Jiangnan. I would advise against traveling during this season.
